Day 1- Arrive in Sri Lanka

Travel from Bandaranayke International airport to Jetwing Blu, Negombo. Spend the rest of your day relaxing at the hotel after your journey.

Overnight in Negombo

Day 2 – Let the Trail Begin!

After breakfast travel from Negombo to Chilaw and check into Anantaya Resort & Spa.

Once settled in visit the Muneeshwaram Temple. The story goes that after a victorious battle, Lord Rama left for Ayodhya in one of king Ravanas carriages. He felt he was being followed by bramhaasthi  dosham as he had killed King Ravana who was a Brahmin. Legend has it that when he arrived, he felt he was not being followed – later stopping the vimana and seeked a remedy from Lord Shiva. Lord Rama was then blessed and was advised to build four lingams and to start praying in order to stop all dosham.

Later that afternoon visit the Mannavari Temple (approx.20 min). Mannavari is one of the first lingams installed and prayed to by Lord Rama also known as Ramalinga Shivan.

Overnight in Chilaw

Day 3 – Temple visits

After breakfast travel from Chilaw to Nuwara Eliya and check into the Grand Hotel. On the way, visit the Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple in Ramboda, where Hanuman was searching for Sita Devi  who was a presiding deity.

Later that evening visit the Gayathri Peedam which is believed to be where King Ravana’s son Meghanath propitiated Lord Shiva with penance & pooja’s and in turn was granted super natural powers.

Day 4 – Seetha Amman Kovil

At your leisure, set off to visit the Seetha Amman Temple also known as Seetha Eliya. The stream that runs from the hills catered to the needs of Sita Devi during her stay at Ashoka Vatika. It is interesting to note that foot prints of Lord Hamunams are to be found by this river.

Spend the rest of your day relaxing at the hotel or travel to a tea factory and enjoy a fresh cup of Ceylonese tea by the lush green tea fields.

Overnight in Nuwara Eliya

Day 5 – Divurumpola

After breakfast visit the Divurumpola, which is known to be the place where one takes an oath. After being liberated from King Ravana, Sita Devi was subjected to prove her chastity by offering herself to the fire. She returned unscathed and proved her holiness during this ritual.

Spend the rest of the day exploring the Nuwara Eliya town.

Overnight in Nuwara Eliya

Day 6 – Ravana Falls

Travel from Nuwara Eliya to Ella and check into 98 acres resort & Spa. Once settled in, proceed to the Ravana Ella Falls & the Ravana Cave.

Ravana Ella Falls is a breathtaking waterfall, 1080 feet high which cascades into several falls. This has resulted in many cave formations and is said to have housed King Ravana in one of them.

The Ravana Cave tunnels showcase the architectural intricacy of King Ravana. These tunnels was used for transport as well as a secret passage through the hills.

Overnight in Ella

Day 7 – Kataragama

Travel from Ella to Kataragama and check into the Mandara Rosen. Visit the Kataragama shrine dedicated to Lord Skanda (Murugan) The God of Love and War. It is believed that this Devala was started in the 2nd Century B.C. by King Dutugemunu. Today, Kataragama is a place of worship for Buddhists & Hindus.

Later that afternoon visit Ussangoda, where the legend has it that after meeting Sita Devi, Lord Hunuman decided to test the strength of the mighty King Ravana and his army of Rakshas’s. During the events that unfolded, Lord Hunumans tail was set of fire by one of the Rakshas and in turn set fire on King Ravana’s empire.

Overnight in Katharagama

Day 8 – The Final Stop on the Trail

Travel from Katarama to Colombo and check into the Cinnamon Grand Hotel. Visit Rumasela on the way which was where Lord Rama and Lakshmana were hit by powerful arrows. During this time Lord Hunuman had fetched some herbs from the jungles of Himalaya to bring them back to life.

Once arrived at Colombo, explore the urban city of Sri Lanka.

Day 9 – Returning home

Transfer to the airport to catch your return flight home
