Day 1- Living in a mudhouse!

Travel from Bandaranayke International airport to The Mudhouse, Anamaduwa. Start your holiday surrounded by natural beauty filled with birdlife and wildlife. Catch the authentic experience of living in a remote rural village sustained purely through environmentally friendly methods.

Visit the Paramakanda rock temple later that evening and discover the rich historic frescoes, shrines along with the magnificent 360 degree view of the village.

Day 2 – Historic escapades

Start your day early and visit the Thonigala Rock Inscription which dates back to the period of both Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura kingdoms. Apart from the archeological significance, enjoy the morning by walking along the rock surrounded by lakeside beauty.

Spend the rest of the day exploring the ancient city of Yapahuwa. Once known to being a royal palace and later becoming a Buddhist monastery which held the sacred tooth relic of lord Buddha for a period of time.

Day 3 – Out to Sea

Take a quick detour to the western coastlines of Kalpitiya to go dolphin watching and enjoy some maritime bliss. There’s no better way staying out in the ocean than being welcomed by the sight hundreds of spinner dolphins.

Day 4 – Rock discoveries

Travel from Anamaduwa to Sigiriya where you’d be staying at the Back of Beyond Eco Lodge, which sits in front of the Pidurangala rock. Once settled in visit the cave temple of Dambulla.

Later that evening climb the Sigiriya rock fortress and witness the famous Sigiriya frescoes.

Day 5 – Forest surroundings

Start your day off on a relaxed note by taking a leisure walk through the forest or enjoy an idealistic swim in the lake.

Visit the Ancient Ritigala monastery which holds the ruins of stone structures and sacred caves. Located on top of a hill overlooking the Sigiriya rock from afar, the views of magnificent green jungle would leave you breathless.

Day 6 – Cool down

Travel upcountry from Sigiriya to the Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge. Spend the rest of the day taking in the cool brisk air and relaxing by the mountains surrounded by tea fields. Visit a tea factory and enjoy a fresh cup of Ceylonese tea.

Day 7 – Sacred visits

Spend the day at the Kandy city catching up on some retail therapy and enjoy the different culinary delights of Sri Lankan cuisine.

Later that evening, visit the ‘Dalada Maligawa’ the temple which holds the sacred relic of Lord Buddha.

Day 8 – Out in the wilderness

Travel from Madolkele to the Gal Oya Lodge to get a sense of what Sri Lanka’s wildlife has in store. Go on a safari in to the Gal Oya National Park and spot herds of wild elephants, endemic birds, sambar deer as well as all kinds of other wild animals.

Day 9 – Returning home

Transfer to the airport to catch your return flight home
