Sigiriya

Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress located in central Sri Lanka, dating back to the 5th century AD. It is known for its impressive architecture, stunning frescoes, and intricate water gardens, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in Sri Lanka.

The fortress was built by King Kasyapa, who ruled the region from 477 to 495 AD. It was built on top of a 200-meter-high rock, which provided strategic advantages for defense and control of the surrounding region. The fortress includes a series of moats, walls, and gardens, as well as several impressive structures, including the Lion Gate, which is guarded by two giant lion paws carved out of the rock.

Overall, Sigiriya is a remarkable example of ancient Sri Lankan architecture and engineering, and a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, culture, and art.
